De jaren 50. Lola en Brownie zijn twee tieners die in het stadje Bundaberg (Australië) wonen. De twee worden verliefd op elkaar, maar hun ouders zijn het niet met de relatie eens. Wanneer Lola zwanger wordt, gaat ze er samen met Brownie vandoor. Ze willen de baby houden en samen een leuk leven leiden. De moeder van Lola is het er niet mee eens en schakelt de politie in.
