De Verenigde Staten, 11 september 2001. Een groep van vijf personen raakt in een lift opgesloten wanneer de noordelijke World Trade Center-toren door een vliegtuig getroffen wordt. Samen trachten ze, zonder de hoop op te geven, te ontsnappen voordat het ondenkbare gebeurt.
