Erin Brockovich, een alleenstaande moeder, kan maar geen baantje vinden. Als ze na een auto-ongeluk ook nog een rechtszaak verliest, dwingt ze haar advocaat om haar een baantje te geven. Aanvankelijk neemt niemand haar serieus, tot ze op het spoor komt van een vervuilingszaak.
