Gefilmd over een periode van drie jaar volgt Waste Land de Braziliaanse kunstenaar Vik Muniz die vanuit zijn woonplaats Brooklyn terugkeert naar Brazilië, naar 's werelds grootste afvalstortplaats, de Jardim Gramacho aan de rand van Rio. Daar leven de 'catadores', groepen armoedige verzamelaars van recyclebare materialen, met wie Muniz een verbondenheid krijgt.
Nee, helaas is Waste Land nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
