'Sweet Country' speelt zich af in 1929 in de buitenwijk van het Northern Territory. Sam is een aboriginal van middelbare leeftijd die werkt voor een vriendelijke predikant, Fred Smith. Harry Marsh keert terug van het westelijk front en wordt aangesteld als de nieuwe stationsoperator.
