Een rijke vrouw op leeftijd wordt in een voorstadje vermoord. Inspecteur Zdychynec wordt op de zaak gezet en al gauw begint hij de jonge dragonder Rudi te verdenken, die toevalligerwijs zijn eigen dochter het hof maakt. Als Zdychynec tijdens een huiszoeking zand op Rudi's laarzen en een flinke som geld in diens nachtkastje vindt, is Rudi verdachte nummer een.
