Plot

Free to Be…You and Me, een project van de Ms. Foundation for Women, is een platenalbum en een geïllustreerd boek dat voor het eerst werd uitgebracht in november 1972, met liedjes en verhalen van veel huidige beroemdheden van die tijd (gecrediteerd als 'Marlo Thomas en Friends') zoals onder meer Alan Alda, Rosey Grier, Cicely Tyson, Carol Channing, Michael Jackson en Diana Ross. Een ABC Afterschool Special met poëzie, liedjes en sketches volgde twee jaar later, in maart 1974. Het basisconcept is het aanmoedigen van de genderneutraliteit van na de jaren 60, terwijl waarden als individualiteit, tolerantie en geluk met iemands identiteit worden geëerbiedigd. Een belangrijke thematische boodschap is dat iedereen, of het nu een jongen of een meisje is, alles kan bereiken.
