Het meisje Mary (Elle Fanning) krijgt van haar oom (Nathan Lane) een op het oog niet zo bijzonder kerstcadeau: een notenkrakerpop. Maar als ze 's nachts wakker wordt blijkt dat de pop tot leven is gekomen en hij trekt Mary mee in een sprookjesachtig avontuur.
