One on One gaat over de naïeve basketbalspeler Henry Steele (Robby Benson). Hij verzet zich hardnekkig tegen de corrupte universitaire sportwereld en de sadistische trainer Moreland Smith (G.D. Spradlin). Ex-student Barry Brunz (Lamont Johnson) treedt als Henry's beschermer op, al gaat dat met ups en downs.
