Higinio en Rosa zijn pas enkele maanden getrouwd wanneer een burgeroorlog uitbreekt. Deze vormt een serieuze bedreiging voor hun leven. Met de hulp van zijn vrouw besluit Higinio een put te graven in hun eigen huis en die te gebruiken als voorlopige schuilplaats.
