Mickey O'Neill is de uitbater van een oude nachtclub in Liverpool die zich op de Ierse gemeenschap richt. Om klanten te trekken, moet hij voor entertainment zorgen. Daarbij is hij aangewezen op het derderangscircuit van pseudo-sterren als Franc Cinatra. Om zijn klanten te paaien belooft hij ze de terugkeer van de vermaarde tenor Josef Locke.
