Lucy Toomey werkt voor het succesvolste advocatenkantoor van New York. Ze heeft al jaren hard gewerkt en zal na oud en nieuw eindelijk partner worden. Alice, de oudere zus van Lucy die speciale verzorging nodig heeft, overlijdt plotseling. Lucy keert terug naar haar ouderlijk huis in Nilson's Bay om de begrafenis en andere zaken te regelen.
