De Israëlische bezetting van de Palestijnse gebieden leidt al generaties lang tot bloedige conflicten. Het kernprobleem in dit conflict is de zogeheten Palestijnse kwestie, waarbij het gaat of het grondgebied van het Britse Mandaatgebied Palestina ten westen van de Jordaan toebehoort aan de (overwegend islamitische) Arabischtalige Palestijnen, of aan de (overwegend joodse) Israëliërs. Of dat er twee staten dienen te komen. Op Palestijns verzet volgt Israëlische expansie. Een vredige oplossing lijkt verder weg dan ooit.
