Mara en Jo zijn beste vriendinnen. Mara is betrouwbaar en Jo heeft problemen. Ze ontmoetten elkaar toen ze 14 jaar oud waren. Geen van hun levens is stabiel, hun baan is precair en hun dates leiden tot niets. Schrijven is iets wat ze ernaast doen, zoals zo vaak in Brooklyn. Te midden van de alledaagse gebeurtenissen en prietpraat, is de enige constante hun vriendschap, of beter gezegd, hun dynamiek: Mara's telefoon zal rinkelen en Jo zal haar hulp nodig hebben, Mara zal alles voor haar laten vallen, maar Jo's gedachten zullen al elders zijn bij de de tijd dat ze arriveert.
