In Anaconda (Montana) neemt de tiener Mickey Peck de zorg over haar verslaafde vader Hank op zich, geen overbodige luxe na het overlijden van zijn vrouw. Maar Mickey droomt stiekem van een eigen leven, het liefst aan de westkust. Wanneer Hanks gedrag meer destructief dreigt te worden en Mickey de kans krijgt om op eigen benen te staan, moet ze kiezen tussen haar familie en zichzelf.
