Giorgio is een ambitieuze maar talentloze journalist. Zijn carrière is in het slop geraakt. Zijn leven verandert echter wanneer de directeur van de krant besluit hem over te plaatsen naar een provinciaal kantoor. De sensationele ontvoering van de jonge Carlo geeft hem zijn werk als correspondent terug en plaatst hem plotseling in de schijnwerpers.
