Het verhaal van een buitengewone vrouw, marathonzwemmer Beth French, die de meest extreme zwemuitdaging ter wereld probeert. Gedreven om een rolmodel te zijn voor haar autistische zoon, en door haar strijd tegen een levenslange ziekte (ME), wordt Beth geconfronteerd met kwallen, haaien, wild weer en onwillige schippers. Maar naarmate haar reis zich ontvouwt, blijken de gevaren van de zee gemakkelijker te overwinnen dan de omwentelingen van het hart.
