Het huwelijk van Jaroslav en Marie, ouders van twee schoolkinderen, lijkt kalm en ordelijk. Marie, een huisvrouw, kan echter voelen dat haar man van haar vervreemd is geraakt en dat alle warmte en liefde uit hun relatie is verdwenen. Marie vermoedt dat er een affaire is met een andere vrouw achter de zakelijke avondbijeenkomsten van haar man, maar wil de waarheid niet weten, in de hoop dat de tijd alles zal genezen. Dan begint Jenda, de broer van haar vriendin, haar het hof te maken.
