Judy Moody (Jordana Beatty) zit in de derde klas. Haar vrienden gaan allemaal naar exotische zomerkampen. Zelf blijft ze echter achter in de stad, waar ze een saaie zomer tegemoet gaat met alleen haar vriend Frank en haar kleine broertje Stink als gezelschap. Wanneer haar tante Opal (Heather Graham) op bezoek komt neemt de zomer echter een onverwachts avontuurlijke wending.
