Lauren Monroe, een rijzende ster bij het New York District advocatenbureau, ziet haar perfecte leventje aan zich voorbij gaan wanneer haar invloedrijke vader sterft. Tijdens de verdeling van de erfenis ontvangt ze slechts een klein aandeel van het grote geld en komt ze in het bezit van een mysterieuze envelop.
