Bill Sheldon koestert enige wrok tegen Brandon Williams, de uitgever van de krant van Midland City. Sheldon geeft Williams de schuld van het feit dat hij zijn macht en invloed zou hebben gebruikt om het geld van de overheid voor overstromingsbeheersing te onderscheppen. Wanneer Williams niet veel later vermoord wordt aangetroffen, wordt Sheldon beschuldigd van de misdaad.
