Catherine, George en hun dochter Franny verruilen Manhattan in het jaar 1980 voor een dorpje in de Hudson Valley. Terwijl ze aan haar nieuwe leven went vermoedt Catherine, een kunstenaar, dat haar huwelijk niet helemaal is zoals het lijkt. Ook de geschiedenis van hun nieuwe woning verbergt een sinister geheim, dat met het bovennatuurlijke te maken heeft.
