Een oude stoomlocomotief, eens de trots van de Uruguayaanse spoorwegen, dreigt voor veel geld verkocht te worden aan een Hollywoodstudio. Drie spoorwegveteranen willen met alle middelen de verkoop boycotten en verhinderen dat de locomotief naar de Verenigde Staten verhuist. Ze kapen de trein en willen ermee naar een veilige plaats sporen. Terwijl de politie hen op die hielen zit, proberen ze de publieke opinie op hun hand te krijgen.
