Dublin, 1977, Frankie heeft eindexamen gedaan en in de overtuiging dat hij gezakt is, stort hij zich die zomer op het organiseren van een strandfeest, droomt over twee onbereikbaar lijkende meisjes en probeert indruk te maken op vrienden en vriendinnen, maar in al zijn dromen en plannen wordt hij steeds gedwarsboomd door zijn excentrieke familie.
