Marc-Uwe Kling is gestopt met zijn studie filosofie en probeert, tevergeefs, als kunstenaar in Berlijn door te breken. Op een middag, als hij nog slaapt, staat er opeens een kangoeroe voor de deur die eieren nodig heeft heeft voor zijn taart. De kangoeroe trekt ongevraagd bij Marc-Uwe Kling in. Een groot vastgoedbedrijf wil een groot deel van de buurt herontwikkelen en samen met andere buurtbewoners gaan ze de strijd aan om dat tegen te houden.
