In 'The Card Counter' volgen we gokker en voormalig soldaat William Tell. Zijn glorietijd in de casino's komt tot een einde wanneer hij wordt benaderd door Cirk, een kwetsbare maar boze jongeman die wraak wil nemen op een militaire kolonel. Dit is tevens een oude vijand van William, die z'n verstandhouding met Cirk als een kans op verlossing ziet. Samen met z'n mysterieuze financierder La Linda neemt William Cirk mee op reis, van casino naar casino, totdat ze hun zinnen zetten op het winnen van een groot pokertoernooi in Las Vegas. William begint op den duur echter in te zien dat het een onmogelijke taak is om Cirk op het rechte pad te houden, zeker aangezien hij zelf ook terug wordt gezogen in de duisternis van z'n verleden.
Nee, helaas is The Card Counter nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
