De film volgt de carrière van Jackie Cogan. Cogan is een handhaver, en als de regels van de maffia verbroken worden wordt hij ingehuurd. Wanneer er een roofoverval plaatsvindt tijdens een kaartspel met hoge inzet, onder de bescherming van de maffia, wordt Cogan ingevlogen. Vakkundig, met de efficiëntie van een meedogenloze zakenman, een scherpzinning gevoel voor mensenkennis, en een stijl zo koelbloedig als zijn blik, opereert hij met betrouwbare precisie.
