De zeventienjarige David is onderdeel van een Russische immigrantenfamilie en helpt regelmatig bij joodse gebedsbijeenkomsten in Brighton Beach. Davids familieleden beschouwen dit allemaal als vanzelfsprekend. David, die net het leven in de homoscene van East Village begint te verkennen, begint de strikte regels van zijn gemeenschap in twijfel te trekken.
