Juni 1983, Dutchess County, New York, Sabastian Cole is op bezoek bij zijn moeder, stiefvader en zusje. Bij het avondeten, verteld Hank (stiefvader) dat hij een vrouw wil worden. Na deze uitspraak vertrekt Sebastian met zijn moeder meteen terug naar Engeland en zijn zus gaat naar Calafornia. 8 maanden later, gaat Sebastiaan terug naar New York, en belt hij aan bij Hank. Hank laat Sebastian bij hem wonen. En Sebastian gaat terug naar school waar hij zijn diploma probeert te halen.
