Ren MacCormack verhuist van Boston naar het zuidelijke plaatsje Bomont, waar het een stuk saaier is dan in de grote stad. Nadat er in Bomont een tragisch ongeluk plaatsvond, heeft gemeenteraadslid en dominee Shaw Moore harde muziek en dansen verboden. Ren trekt zich niets aan van deze regels en tijdens een van de feestjes wordt hij verliefd op Ariel, de dochter van dominee Shaw Moore.
