De film vertelt het verhaal van een hechte gemeenschap. De raad van ouderen waarschuwt de inwoners voor de mysterieuze wezens die zich in de bossen rond het dorp schuilhouden. De nieuwsgierige Lucius Hunt is van plan de dorpsgrens te overschrijden en het onbekende te trotseren. Het lijkt er op dat hij met deze daad de toekomst van het dorp voor altijd zal veranderen...
