New Yorker Willie McKay reist af naar het zuiden om een erfenis te claimen. Daar komt hij als gast bij de familie Canfield terecht en wordt verliefd op de dochter des huizes, zich niet bewust van de slepende vete tussen de Canfields en zijn eigen familie, de McKays.
