In 2008 werd de New Yorkse moeder Tiffany Rubin geconfronteerd met de ergste nachtmerrie van elke ouder toen haar zesjarige zoon Kobe in het niets verdween. Als Tiffany hoort dat Kobe is ontvoerd door zijn biologische vader en naar Zuid-Korea is gebracht, zoekt hij de hulp van Mark Miller, vertegenwoordiger van de American Association for Lost Children, die haar door het moeizame proces van reizen naar Korea en het terugkrijgen van Kobe begeleidt.
