Karim, een pianist die droomt van een carrière in Europa, woont in een door oorlog verscheurde stad in het Midden-Oosten waar moderne levenswijzen zijn verboden door een extremistische groepering. Hij ziet zich genoodzaakt zijn piano te verkopen en te vertrekken, maar dat wordt hem lastig gemaakt wanneer zijn piano wordt beschoten. Karim begint dan aan een gevaarlijke tocht om de kapotte toetsen te repareren.
