Juli 1996. De tienjarige Sophie brengt haar zomervakantie door met haar mama en haar nicht Laurence. Maar Laurence is ouder geworden en haar moeder zit ergens anders met haar gedachten. Terwijl het hele land op zoek is naar twee vermiste jonge meisjes, ontdekt Sophie dat dit haar laatste zomer zal zijn als kind.
