In een kleine stad plannen decaan Alana en haar levendige tienerdochter Samantha een vakantieconcert om de school te redden met de hulp van de nieuwe klusjesman, legerveteraan Johnny, en zijn rustige zoon Max. Maar als een auto-ongeluk Samantha in een levensbedreigende toestand brengt, wendt Alana zich tot Johnny voor steun. En Max neemt een wanhopige beslissing die hun families voor altijd met elkaar zal verbinden. Alle vier moeten ze hun waarden over opoffering, familie en liefde in twijfel trekken - en wat het betekent om dankbaar te zijn voor nog een Kerstmis.
