Samantha Holt had het perfecte leven, met een knappe verloofde en een mooie toekomst in het vooruitzicht. Maar een ongeluk op een donkere verlaten weg zet haar op een rampkoers met Bruce Miller, een toegewijde familieman, die die tot waanzin wordt gedreven wanneer hij alles waar hij om gaf verliest. Een jaar later besluit Bruce om Samantha de straf te geven die ze volgens hem ontlopen heeft. Sinds de noodlottige nacht worstelt Samantha met haar emoties.
