1987. Een groep jonge filmmakers trekt de bossen van Californië in om er een slasher te filmen. Met behulp van twee VHS-videocamera's beginnen ze aan de opnamen. Ze worden echter opgejaagd door een familie kannibalen die in een naburig bos woont. Een paar van de filmmakers wordt door hen afgeslacht en de overlevenden zullen nu alles op alles moeten zetten om te overleven.
