Spanje, 1982. Andrés Expósito, een jonge politie-inspecteur, aanvaardt een functie in Denia, een klein stadje aan de Middellandse Zeekust, in de hoop een rustiger leven te leiden en dat de natuurlijke omgeving de kwetsbare gezondheid van zijn dochter zal helpen verbeteren; maar eenmaal in zijn nieuwe functie raakt hij bij toeval betrokken bij het onderzoek naar de vreemde dood van de inspecteur die hij is komen vervangen.
