Alvin Ailey was een Amerikaanse danser en choreograaf die in 1958 het wereldberoemde Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater oprichtte. Hij veroverde de ballet- en danswereld met Afro-Amerikaanse choreografieën en composities. Het dansgezelschap staat tegenwoordig onder artistieke leiding van Robert Battle en eerde haar oprichter in 2020 door hiphopdanser Rennie Harris een choreografie over diens leven te laten maken. Dat stuk vormt het uitgangspunt voor Jamila Wignots documentaire waarin we zien hoe Ailey als plattelandsjongen uit Texas verliefd werd op moderne dans en vervolgens uitgroeide tot de belangrijkste choreograaf van Amerika.
Nee, helaas is Ailey nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
