Anderson (Jason Biggs) is helemaal klaar om zijn hart aan zijn perfecte vriendin te geven, maar daar blijkt het hare niet tegen opgewassen. Ze overleeft zijn ultiem romantische huwelijksaanzoek niet en laat Anderson gebroken achter. Zijn beste vriend Ted (Michael Weston) drukt 'm een jaar later op het hart dat het nu wel weer tijd is om te gaan daten. Dat advies ziet Anderson niet helemaal zitten; hij wil die lastige fase het liefst maar overslaan. Midden in de lunchroom waar ze zitten vraagt hij daarom de eerste vrouw die hij ziet, serveerster Katie (Isla Fisher), ten huwelijk. Zij kan ook wel een twist in haar leven gebruiken en zegt direct dolblij 'ja'!
