Roberta, de jonge gefrustreerde echtgenote van een verkoper van badkuipen, is helemaal gefascineerd door een oproepje in de krant. 'Wanhopig gezocht: Susan' luidt de tekst, en de afzender is een zekere Jim die een afspraak wil maken in het New Yorkse Battery Park. Roberta besluit naar de afgesproken plek te gaan en daar wordt ze prompt met Susan verwisseld. Zo ontmoet ze Dez, de vriend van Jim, die zeer van haar gecharmeerd is. Maar hij is niet de enige die achter haar aanzit. Er is namelijk ook nog een moordenaar die jacht maakt op een paar oorringen die in het bezit zijn van Susan...
