Alicia Tate, moeder van twee en 16 jaar getrouwd, wordt verliefd op de saxofoon-speler Joe. Voor haar pijnlijke rug gaat ze naar Dr. Yang, een oriëntaalse kruidendokter die ontdekt dat de problemen niet door haar rug komen, maar door haar geestelijke toestand. Dr. Yang's magische kruiden geven Alice speciale krachten, die haar uit de dagelijkse sleur weten te halen.
