Het verhaal over de moord op John Lennon in New York, 1980. Mark Chapman, die zelf veel waardering voor Lennon heeft, kampt met hevige psychische problemen en arriveert in New York met de bedoeling Lennon van kant te maken. Chapman wil zelf beroemd worden en om hierin te slagen drijft zijn verknipte geest hem tot het vermoorden van Lennon
