De film volgt de beroemde schrijver Rory die voorleest uit zijn eerste en meest bekroonde roman tijdens een lezing op een universiteit. De roman die vele jaren geleden geschreven is zorgde voor een boost van zijn carrière. Het boek vertelt het verhaal van een jonge schrijver die op het hoogtepunt van zijn literaire succes ontdekt welke prijs hij moet betalen voor het stelen van iemand anders zijn werk om zo zijn eigen carrière te beginnen.
