Omdat Louis Creed een baan heeft aanvaard als arts in een kleine stad in Maine, verhuist het hele gezin van Chicago naar hun nieuwe adres. Ze voelen zich onmiddellijk thuis in hun nieuwe, prachtige woning, maar het huis is wel gelegen aan een gevaarlijke snelweg. Talloze honden en katten werden al door vrachtwagens aangereden, en vonden daardoor de dood. Er is dan ook een echt dierenkerkhof, waar de kinderen uit de buurt al generaties lang hun trouwe viervoeters begraven. Op een dag wordt ook Church, de poes van Ellie Crandall, door een vrachtwagen gegrepen. Samen met buurman Jud gaat Louis het onfortuinlijke dier begraven op een plekje achteraan het kerkhof. De verbazing van Louis is groot, wanneer enkele uren later Church weer aan de deur staat. De poes is springlevend.
Nee, helaas is Pet Sematary nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
