In het koninkrijk der dieren is de leeuw de koning. Van zijn onderdanen krijgt hij zo veel klachten te horen over de gemene praktijken van de vos Renard, dat hij de vos dagvaardt te verschijnen voor zijn troon en rechtbank. Renard is echter zo sluw dat hij nog gemenere trucjes verzint om niet veroordeeld te worden.
