Zolang ze zich kan herinneren, is Angie's favoriete onderdeel van Kerstmis de kerstavondverlichting op het dorpsplein. Maar deze kerst - haar eerste zonder haar moeder - heeft Angie niet veel zin om feest te vieren, totdat ze hoort dat haar moeder er altijd van heeft gedroomd om de jaarlijkse boomversieringswedstrijd te winnen en haar boom verlicht te zien op het dorpsplein. Angie realiseert zich dat het winnen van de wedstrijd en het versieren van de stadsboom de perfecte manier is om haar moeder te eren. Wat ze niet verwacht, is dat haar middelbare schoolliefde David en zijn dochter Gabby ook meedoen aan de wedstrijd.
