Nadat ze een uitvoering heeft gezien van Shakespeare's 'King Richard', krijgt Philippa Langley sympathie voor de controversiële koning. Ze begint een historisch onderzoek en ontdekt dat koning Richard lll ten onrechte een slechte reputatie heeft.
