Na de mislukte moordaanslag op hem gaat de Russische oppositieleider Aleksej Navalny op zoek naar de daders. Het plaatst hem frontaal tegenover de hoogste regionen van de Russische staatsmacht. Ondertussen beraamt hij zijn gevaarlijke terugkeer naar Rusland vanuit ballingschap in Duitsland. In Navalny heeft filmmaker Daniel Roher toegang tot Navalny’s inner circle terwijl hij herstelt in ballingschap in Duitsland en vervolgens achter de daders aan gaat met hulp van onderzoekscollectief Bellingcat.
